Yes, I know it's quite common in Washington DC to throw people under the bus, in the ongoing political blame game. However, I would submit to you that in Washington DC they are now starting to throw the American people under the bus, or rather force them onto the bus - to Lord knows where? Perhaps I should explain what I mean by being thrown onto the bus.
Due to the missteps of the Obama Administration, and past administrations, we are paying far too much for our gasoline and transportation fuels. It is not just the price we pay for the actual product, it is all the taxes that are being thrown into the loop to help support a bloated bureaucracy. Theoretically, all the taxes that come from fuel at both the state and federal level should be used for transportation infrastructure, and safety,
but they are not. Rather, they go into the general budget. Sadly only a little bit of that money actually makes it for transportation infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, the Obama Administration wants to build high-speed trains, and they say this will help our transportation, and make it easier for people to get to where they need to be. Many of the left-leaning folks that live in the big city want everyone to ride the bus, so there will be less traffic, and less pollution. Of course the most wealthy socialists and left-leaning individuals will not get rid of their cars, but rather they want everyone else to take the bus, so there won't be any traffic so they can scoot through town; Convenient indeed?
In socialism, the population relies on the government for almost everything, transportation included. In the United States of America the automobile is a symbol of freedom, and free will. You can get in your car and just go for a drive, you can go anywhere you want, without telling anybody, or trying to schedule around some system which doesn't work that well. It is a very efficient form of transportation for the individuals to drive around in the car, as long as there are not huge traffic jams.
Since most of the cities in the United States are already built out, you cannot put high-speed rail through them, unless you take it all underground. That doesn't work either because we have lots of groundwater, and every time we try to dig a hole or a tunnel it fills up with water, and whereas we are getting better at it, it's still not good enough, it would have been much better to build an underground rail system prior to building the city, but now it's too late. The cost is unaffordable, and it would be a huge burden on the population.
Worse, to build anything in the United States, means you have to pay super high salaries, deal with litigation, fight the environmentalists, negotiate with unions, and then try to attempt to deal with the myriad of regulations from more than 3 and 4 letter agencies than you can count. This is not a solution to the transportation challenges we face. This is merely do-gooders socialists trying to convince us of utopia that can never exist in the present period without major changes, which include throwing them all out of office and letting the free market deal with things. Please consider all this.
